For our final project we were asked to complete 2 different projects, but because I took my time with my first project (weaving) Mrs. Sudkamp said that it would be okay if I only had one final project.
Thanks Mrs. Sudkamp!!!! Written By: Zoe Lukas Why did you pick the option you did? What drew you to it?
I chose to weave because it just looks really cool when it's finished. It's another skill besides just drawing and painting and I wanted to learn how to do it so that I'll know and be able to weave another time. What was the most challenging part of the project and why? The most challenging part of the project was that I became very OCD. If I messed up while weaving I would undo what I did to fix it. Also, when I first started weaving the original color I was using was white, but it randomly vanished so I had to restart with another color. How successful do you think it turned out? Did it turn out the way you envisioned or did it turn another direction? At first I was going to do a different design and use different colors, but after loosing my original color and running out of time I went with another design. I really like this design. It catches the eye and its different than other peoples weaving. I also think that both colors compliment each other really well. This project was really fun! Written By: Zoe Lukas I stand for Expressing Yourself Through Dance. I love to dance, I have been dancing for 8 years. I also respect those who express them-selves the way they want and not act like someone they are not to impress people. I think it's very important for to express themselves through what they love to do and for me that is dancing. Written By: Zoe Lukas What word(s) is it representing? Is it successful representing these? For my Art Journaling piece I was given three words but I only used two. The words I used were "blue" and "baseball." I believe my piece is successfully representing these two words because I clearly incorporated each word but in different ways and with different materials. For this project I have 5 layers. For the first layer I went on pinterest and was inspired by a sketch of a baseball player. I sketched the player in pencil and then went over it in sharpie. For my second layer I went over my first layer with tissue paper. I used green tissue paper to represent the grass and blue tissue paper to represent the sky. For the third layer I put white paint on some bubble wrap and printed it onto my paper to give the effect of clouds. For the fourth layer, to pull it all together, I went online and found an inspirational baseball quote from Babe Ruth. With this quote I used the taping method and taped the piece of paper and let it soak in water. Once it was done soaking I to the paper away from the tape and the ink was transferred. Then for the final layer I bordered the quote with white yarn. I chose white for the yarn to pull in the white from the clouds. I worked with Kathleen and Shaelyn for this Stop Motion Animation project. Kathleen brought the materials (candy) for the project and Shaelyn and I helped set up the stools and meter sticks for the camera to rest on. We also sorted the candy and helped place them on the paper. While Kathleen moved the figures Shaelyn and I took turns taking pictures. Was the video successful? I would say it was/is successful because it was so much fun and its so adorable to watch. It also makes sense when viewers watch it and it isn't confusing. What would you change if you were to do it again? If I were to do this project again I would add on to the story because it turned out so good and it keeps me wanting to watch more. Written By: Zoe Lukas Unit Questions:
What was your limitation? How were you able to overcome the problems you can across? At first my limitation was that I didn't know what to draw for this unit project. To overcome this problem I looked on Pinterest to find something that caught my eye and inspired me. Once I found a house that inspired me I decided to make it into an "UP" house and add balloons to it using only my fingerprints. While creating the balloons, they would sometimes get messed up by either using too much or not enough paint on my fingers. To fix this I would either re-apply the fingerprint with more paint or I would cover the part of the fingerprint that was messed up with another fingerprint. Overall this project was a lot of fun and very creative. Written By: Zoe Lukas Unit's Questions:
Object Art: For my object art I drew a lady with a flower dress. What did you learn from this? Did you learn about the medium, style, technique? With this mini lesson I definitely learned how to be more creative, and how to think out of the box. I would never have thought of using the flower petals from the tree outside our classroom to complete this piece. How is this piece successful? This piece is successful because it shows emotion, and it draws attention because its a very "bold" and unique piece. It also is successful because its something different, because of the flower petals. What are some of the things you might consider changing if you were to do it again? If I were to do this piece again I would actually have drawn more girls, maybe in different poses. I think I should have showed off more of my artwork. Newspaper Art: For my newspaper art I glued newspaper piece to my sheet of paper around two birds and a heart that I previously sketched. What did you learn from this? Did you learn about the medium, style, technique? I learned how to make art using different materials, and I also learned how to become more patient with my artwork that may take more time. How is this piece successful? This piece is successful because it incorporates newspaper, but it also incorporated my drawing skills. What are some of the things you might consider changing if you were to do it again? If I were to do this piece again I would have made the birds different colors instead of black. I would have also used different shades of colors for each bird. Clay Fish/ Animal Art: For my clay piece of art I sculpted a small elephant What did you learn from this? Did you learn about the medium, style, technique? With this piece of art I learned how to work with clay and how to sculpt it. I also learned new techniques like the technique used to stick two pieces of clay together. How is this piece successful? This piece is successful because the viewer can easily distinguish what the animal is and it didn't fall apart in the kiln, which means I did good with my techniques. What are some of the things you might consider changing if you were to do it again? If I were to do this piece again I would have added more texture, and detail to the piece. ****I was absent on the day that we did the outside art. Written By: Zoe Lukas Theme Questions:
What is the difference between getting "inspiration" from another piece and "stealing" an idea? The difference between being inspired to create a piece and stealing a piece is that when you are inspired you may use an idea or aspect of the piece but also add different elements to make it your own. You can even use a different medium. If you are stealing a piece you are copying the exact artwork and not using you own imagination and creativeness. Is it okay to use part of an idea or part of another picture in your piece if you change something or give credit to the original source? I believe that it is okay to use part of an idea in your piece because it shows that you were inspired to make your own representation of it. If you use part of an image in your artwork but give credit to the original source is also okay because you gave credit to the artist you thought of the piece and designed it. Final Piece Questions: Why did you combine the pieces you did? I combined blood and nail polish because I wanted to create something that was different and unique. I also wanted two objects that would be fun to combine. There wasn't an exact reason why I chose the two pieces other than the fact that I was randomly choosing objects and writing them down as possible choices. Why did you pick this medium? Was is because you enjoy working with it? Or was it to match your idea? I chose oil pastels as my medium because I enjoy working with them and getting my hands dirty to blend colors together. I also felt more comfortable using a crayon that I could control rather than a paint brush. If you were to change ONE thing about your piece what would it be? If I could change one thing about my piece I would probably make the background more even on both sides of the hand so that the eye doesn't look to one side first. What is the most successful thing about your art piece? I think that the most successful part of my piece was my blending of colors and adding different shades of the same color by using black and white. Written By: Zoe Lukas |
