I personally think that my prisma colored pineapple was my most successful piece of this semester. I think this because even though the overall composition is simple the effort and detail that went into the pineapple required a lot of thought and color scheme. I constantly referred back to pictures of pineapples to get the right skin texture and 3D effect. I feel that for the first time of actually using these colored pencils properly I successfully used the pencils full color and blending qualities. I also feel that by using a variety of colors that a viewer may not see in a pineapple was also successful. For instance I had used many browns and greens for the skin of the pineapple because that is what I saw, but many of my peers didn't realize how much brown was in the skin because they look at the main color which is yellow not brown. This is why I think my pineapple piece was my most successful piece from this semester. 3. Two mini lessons that I feel have been the most beneficial to me as a student was the mini painting project and the value chart. The mini painting project was actually really fun. I really enjoyed it, but it was beneficial because it allowed you to paint this complex painting by breaking it up into small segments and painting each segment. Sometimes when you look at a piece as a whole it looks intimidating and impossible to recreate, but when you break it down it's actually quite simple. The value chart was very beneficial for anyone who is interested in drawing. The value chart was a very simple and solid introduction to drawing in general whether it's with pencil, pen, pastel, or paint. An artist needs to be able to know the value of their tool and what they can do with it. They also need to know an object's roundness or flatness, shadow, and light source. Each of these can make a sketch look more detailed and accurate to the real life thing that is being drawn. This mini lesson was very helpful when I was working on my stippling project. In the project is was key to separate the black and lights with using the same color pen. Each of these mini lessons helped me grow as an artist. Thanks for a great semester! Written By: Zoe Lukas |
