Did you pick a material or technique that was new or different over something that was familiar?
This project was a lot of fun because I have worked with clay before and was very familiar with it but I still had room for experimentation. For this Clay food project I experimented with the cookies. To add a "cookie-like-texture" I used Mrs. Sudkamps suggestion and added coffee grinds to the wet clay so that when the clay dried it would have the coffee grind in-print. I also painted all of the cookies a light brown color and then I went back and used a sponge to add a darker brown to the cookies to make them more realistic. I am really happy with how they turned out.
How did you respond to challenges that occurred as you worked?
While working on this project I quickly realized that I needed to take my time on the cup portion of the project. When I rushed or didn't secure the coils enough the cup would start to concave and collapse inwards. So when it would start to create a funny shape I would slow down and go over it with more water. I even went back and re-connected the coils. It made me really proud when others at my table commented on how much they liked my cup.
Did you ask another student for feedback during your work process?
During the painting process of the project I had asked some of my friends there opinions on how I should paint my clay pieces. They helped inspired me and get a different look on my artwork. With the help of my peers and Mrs. Sudkamps suggestions I got to where I wanted with this project!
